So I finally jumped into the world of monthly subscription book boxes and let me TELL YOU it’s AMAZING. One of the “rules” of the Owlcrate box is that you need to post an unboxing somewhere on the internet, and HERE WE ARE, LADIES AND GENTS. On the internet. So here’s my Owlcrate unboxing!
No one is telling me to say these things, I’m just really in love with Owlcrate.
There are so many out there, and Owlcrate is one that I’ve been obsessing over on their Instagram, and with all the other bookstagrammers that I follow that subscribe to them posting pictures. I just fell in love with this box before I even made a real decision to make this a thing.
Initially, I was only doing it for the Darkness box, because let’s get real, anything sold as Throne of Glass meets Six of Crows* inspired is INSTANTLY a thing I want.
*I haven’t actually read Six of Crows yet but I have faith that it will be wonderful because I read the Grisha trilogy and LOVED IT.
NOW THOUGH. I’m stuck for at least another month because THAT THEME. Once Upon a Dream? YES PLEASE. Russian Folklore? GIMME.
Anyway. I’m very excited about this box. I love everything in it and it’s just the best. Now on with the show.
What’s in the boooooooox
(I’m so sorry I had no choice)
Just opening it and getting to the lovely card they have in there describing the box was the best.
Going from left to right here we have:
Bookmark from EvieBookish: This is just beautiful, y’all. I haven’t read this series yet (like I said above, I WANT TO though), but just on this quote I know that Six of Crows will be fabulous.
Pencil Pouch from Out of Print: I definitely (probably didn’t) need another pencil case because I never stop buying pens/pencils/markers. Having this awesome thing to store them in is just wonderful.
Celaena’s Cake candle from The Melting Library: I just love The Melting Library. I have so many other candles from them and just let me tell you they’re all amazing. This one though! This candle actually smells like chocolate cake. Not that fake, pretend chocolate smell that other candles try and pass off as acceptable. No, this one smells like you just stuck your nose in REAL LIVE CHOCOLATE CAKE. I want to eat it.
Remade: I’ve never gotten anything in a serial form like this, and this story sounds so interesting.
Synopsis: Every minute, 108 people die. This fall, in one of those minutes, twenty-three of those deaths will be teenagers. Now they are humanity’s last hope for survival. Awakened in a post-apocalyptic world and hunted by mechanical horrors, these teens search for answers amidst the ruins of civilization. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline-pumping YA adventure.
Fortune Telling Bath Bomb from Da Bomb: I honestly can’t wait to try this. I’ve wanted to try bath bombs for forever, but just I think it’s a thing you have to use to get, and I’ve never gotten one before. Now I definitely need to make sure that I have time to lounge in the tub for a while (probably while reading the book that came in the box along with it)!!
Okay, so dark fantasy is my JAM when it comes to books. I love it always, it’s my go-to genre, and I’ve found only a few that have disappointed me. I was excited about the book in this box before I even bought it and then this shows up:
Triplets? Who all have magic and have to FIGHT TO THE DEATH FOR THE CROWN? YES THANK YOU.
Plus, like, it comes with a cootie catcher? So it’s really the most perfect book. I cannot wait to read this one! Here’s the actual blurb for it:
Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.
If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest.
I AM EXCITED. I love this whole concept and the names are beautiful and there’s a MAP.
That’s right, folks, there’s a map and I love maps. It’s always so nice, being able to really find yourself in a world created by a book. I don’t know who makes these maps for books but I know I want to meet them.
I’m so excited for the next one!
Honestly, I don’t know what took me so long to get into these book boxes (especially with the bookstagram hype), but I’m so glad I finally did! I cannot wait to see what comes for me next.
Have you ever subscribed to one of these boxes? Which one? (If you haven’t, and you’ve wanted to, DO IT! It’s well worth it!!)
